Our experts at the WHO Conference

The two-day WHO European conference on tackling NCDs through digital solutions, which took place December 14-15, 2021 in a hybrid format concluded in Moscow.

Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Dr. Oleg Salagay and Pavel Pugachev, Deputy Ministers of Health of the Russian Federation, Dr. Dmitry Pinevich, Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus and many others addressed the event.

According to WHO data, COVID-19 has created a need for telemedicine and digital health, and good results are seen in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other NCDs.

As scheduled, the conference has served as a launchpad for further research and commitment by countries to invest in these solutions at national level and as partners. During the two-day conference, the new challenges in the management of chronic diseases and how they can be addressed with digital tools were discussed, the use of good digital practices in the prevention, monitoring and control of diseases was explored, and particular emphasis was placed on how the WHO can support countries in the implementation of these practices.

The participants were particularly interested in the session "Global developments", which was moderated by Dr. Alexey Novozhilov, Head of International Affairs Department of the Federal Research Institute for Health Organization and Informatics of Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. During the session, reports were announced by international experts from China, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Russia on the topics " Challenges and advances of digital neuropsychiatry in the Russian Federation", "NCD surveillance in China", "WHO Digital Health Guidelines" and others.

As a result the Moscow DIGITAL4NCD Conference Statement was adopted. The Conference statement can serve as a roadmap and pave the way for innovation and scaling up of digital technologies and tools for surveillance, prevention and control of NCDs.
